Paul visited his wife Pam at her quilting shop one day and found her piecing a quilt with a cone of thread lying on its side in a Tupperware container, unrolling up through a loop in a nearby lamp and then into her sewing machine. Paul said, "This is a quilting business isn't it?" To which Pam answered, "Yes?"
Paul commented that the thread situation didn't look very professional, and Pam promptly informed him how hard it is to get a quality cone thread holder. She asked Paul if he could make her one that didn't tip over, and he said he would be happy to. As Paul was leaving, Pam mentioned that maybe he could put a flower on it.
Coneflowers were born!
